Referral Scheme Terms

Last updated: 17 October 2026

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Free Deposit Check. "You" means the person making a referral. "Your friend" means the person you refer.

Please read these terms before you share your referral link. By sharing it, you agree to them.

1. Who can take part

You can take part if you are 18 or over and live in the UK. You can join on our refer a friend page (freedepositcheck.co.uk/refer), or you will be given a link when you use our free deposit check.

You do not need to have a claim yourself. You do not need to have used our check yourself. Everyone who joins, and everyone who completes a check, gets a personal referral link, whatever their result.

Joining is free and there is no obligation to refer anyone. If you would rather not take part, simply do not share your link.

2. How to refer someone

Share your personal referral link with your friend. The link is unique to you and it is how we know the referral came from you.

Your friend needs to use your link when they do their own free deposit check. If they come to us another way, or they type our address in by hand, we will have no record that you referred them and we will not be able to pay you.

Only share your link with people you know and who are happy to hear from us. Please do not post it as spam, buy advertising to promote it, or share it in a way that suggests you work for us.

3. What you get, and when

You will receive £100 for each friend you refer, once all of the following have happened:

  1. Your friend uses your referral link to complete a free deposit check.

  2. Your friend goes on to sign a Conditional Fee Agreement with the solicitor we introduce them to.

  3. A period of 14 days passes after they sign, and they have not cancelled within that time.

The 14 days is your friend's cooling off period. It is their legal right to change their mind, and nothing is payable until it has passed. We will tell you when your friend signs, and the date their cooling off period ends.

There is no limit on how many friends you can refer. Every referral that meets the three conditions above earns £100.

4. When we cannot pay

We will not be able to pay a referral where:

  • Your friend did not use your link, so we have no record of the referral.

  • You refer yourself, or someone using your own phone number or email address.

  • Your friend had already contacted us before you referred them. In that case we treat them as an existing enquiry.

  • Two people refer the same friend. We credit whoever referred them first.

  • Your friend does not sign a Conditional Fee Agreement, or cancels within the 14 day cooling off period.

  • We reasonably believe the referral was not genuine, for example where links have been shared as spam or accounts appear to have been created to claim rewards.

If we cannot pay a referral, we will tell you why.

5. How we pay you

We pay by bank transfer. We will contact you for your bank details once your friend has signed, and we will pay you on the day their 14 day cooling off period ends.

We will never ask you for your bank details before your friend has signed, and we will never ask you for a password, a PIN, or a card number. If you receive a message claiming to be from us and asking for any of those things, it is not from us.

6. Tax

Any reward you receive is yours to declare if you need to. Depending on your circumstances it may count as taxable income. We do not deduct tax from referral payments and we cannot give you tax advice. If you are unsure, speak to HMRC or an accountant.

7. Your friend is under no obligation

A referral is an introduction, nothing more. Your friend is free to use us or not, and free to take advice elsewhere. Their deposit check is free and carries no obligation, exactly as yours did.

Nothing about this scheme changes the advice your friend receives, the solicitor they are introduced to, or the terms they are offered.

8. Changes to the scheme, and ending it

We may change these terms or end the scheme at any time. If we do, we will publish the change on this page and update the date at the top.

Any referral you have already made will be honoured under the terms that applied when you made it. We will not change the rules on a referral after the event.

9. Your information, and your friend's

If you join on our refer a friend page, we keep your name, email address and mobile number so that we can send you your link, tell you about your referrals and pay you. We use your referral link only to connect your friend's enquiry to you, so that we can pay you.

We do not ask you for your friend's details and you should not send them to us. It is for your friend to contact us themselves, using your link, if they choose to.

How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, at https://freedepositcheck.co.uk/privacy

10. Getting in touch

If you have a question about the scheme, or you think a referral has been missed, email us at hello@freedepositcheck.co.uk and we will look into it.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled something, tell us and we will respond within 30 days.

11. General

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will deal with any dispute.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them still apply.

This scheme is run by Free Deposit Check. It is separate from any agreement your friend enters into with a solicitor, and it does not form part of that agreement.
